The Military Order of the World Wars
SUBJECT: National Citations
TO: Region,
Department, State and Chapter Commanders
Each Chapter, State, Department and Region may submit to
National Headquarters a recommendation for a National Citation for Companions
determined to have performed the most meritorious service to the chapter, state,
department or region and to the Order during the current fiscal year.
The citation should be limited to 45-55 words.
With limited headquarters staff and time, it is very important that the
recommendation reads as such, and is grammatically correct.
This will assist headquarters in preparing the high volume of citations
in a timely manner.
To
insure uniformity and expeditious handling, these mandatory implementing
instructions are announced:
a. A chapter commander may
recommend only one Companion for each 250 living members, or major
fraction thereof. Chapters with
less than 250 living members are allocated one citation.
Coordination with Region, Department, and State Commanders is recommended
to avoid duplicate nominations.
b. State, Department and Region commanders may recommend one
Companion from their respective area. Coordination
with Chapter Commanders is recommended to avoid duplicate nominations.
c. No national officers shall be eligible for a National
Citation while in office. This
restriction does not apply to Emeritus members of the General Staff, nor shall
it prohibit a national officer from receiving a National Citation for truly
meritorious service performed during that portion of the year immediately
prior to becoming a national officer.
d. It is mandatory that the
Commander of the chapter, state, department, or region signs the recommendation. Signature
authority may not be delegated to any other officer.
Signed FAX (703) 683-4501 submissions will be accepted.
Recommendations are to be mailed or faxed to national
headquarters to arrive no later than 1 June 2008.
Submissions bearing later postal cancellations cannot be processed.
