About MOWW
and Its Membership
The Military Order of the World Wars is a patriotic, non-profit, nonpartisan, veterans organization. The Order was established in 1919 to promote the welfare of our nation. Because it clearly is not a self-seeking organization, the Order is widely respected and listened to throughout all branches of government and across the country.
The Order provides an opportunity for officers of all uniformed services to unite in a strong program to promote national security, patriotism, good citizenship, and service to country.
The Order is comprised of 155 chapters across the nation. The role of the elected staff and national headquarters is to support individual chapters, which are the backbone of the Order. Chapter members hold regular meetings to engage in a dialogue on issues of national importance, and to plan for the Order’s outreach programs.
Eligibility and Membership
Membership in the Order is open to all commissioned officers who are serving or have served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States (Active, Reserve, and National Guard), plus the Coast Guard, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, and Public Health Service. Members have included Presidents Hoover, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Nixon, Ford, and Reagan; chiefs of the military services—Pershing, MacArthur, Marshall, Burke, Westmoreland, Mundy, Sullivan, and Boorda; and many members of Congress, the judiciary, governors, state legislators, and local officials. Membership classifications are Regular, Perpetual, and Hereditary (for spouses and descendants of officers).
A Proud Tradition of 80 Years of Service to the Nation
Support for National Security. The Order sponsored programs that play a role in helping maintain a strong military posture. Over the years, our consistent, effective support has helped achieve significant improvements in national defense.
Youth Leadership Conferences and Patriotic Education Programs. The Order has dedicated its efforts in support of the youth of America by conducting Youth Leadership Conferences, and Boy and Girl Scout programs throughout the United States. The Order promotes and educates the youth of America about citizenship, patriotism, and our Flag. In addition, the Order provides books and materials for students to learn about the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence. Outstanding future leaders receive an education that helps keep alive our national heritage and free enterprise system.
Reserve Officers Training Corps. MOWW provides support for both the Junior and Senior ROTC programs. Awards are presented by chapter members to outstanding cadets. The Order also directly contributes to programs established to provide training and education for “Youth at Risk” to enhance their potential to lead productive lives. Support is provided in the school year and during summer camp programs. Respected Voice in Washington. MOWW enables its members to unite with thousands of other citizens on issues of national importance, knowing their views will be heard on matters of national security, law and order, and other vital issues.
