Mission and Objectives
Statement
Mission:
To provide a year-long course of instruction (taught every other
day for 90 minutes) designed to successfully transition and integrate
9th grade students into Surrattsville High School, Clinton, Maryland.
This course will strive to develop in each student a positive
self image, self-confidence, motivation to achieve success, and
a positive attitude toward learning.
Philosophy :
Hope fuels self-image, self-image accentuates confidence, confidence
aids motivation, and motivation leads to goal establishment and
goal accomplishment. This results in a personal high self-esteem
and a 'can do-will do' positive attitude.
Objectives : The student will:
- accepting and caring for oneself,
- accepting and respecting others as they are, and
- being personally and socially responsible.
b. Acquire decision-making skills that will enhance career planning.
c. Use high school courses in preparation for assessing different career options.
d. Recognize that high school is an arena to meet the
challenges and responsibilities of adulthood successfully.
e. Understand the conflict resolution process.
f. Recognize the importance of resolving problems collaboratively and peacefully.
g. Understand one's individual learning style.
h. Learn strategies to help the individual understand the content of courses taken at Surrattsville High School.
i. Be motivated to improve the individual's learning abilities.
j. Become familiar with the Surrattsville High School complex and the resources available to assist student achievement.
k. Become familiar with the guidelines and procedures governing
student conduct and discipline at Surrattsville High School.
l. Understand and comply with the published classroom procedures
for each class.
