RESOLUTION

Further Increasing the Army's End Strength

WHEREAS, The United States Army remains over-committed globally in the war on Terrorism, Homeland Security and honoring commitments in Europe, the Balkans, Asia and elsewhere and

WHEREAS, The Army's severe shortage in active duty end strengths is reflected in the activation of nearly 300,000 Guardsmen and Reservists as well as the announced dispatching of the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment and an infantry brigade from the Republic of Korea to Iraq; and

WHEREAS, During the height of the Cold War, the United States Army had 18 active divisions, and even with only 10 divisions in the current inventory, the Army and the Congress have approved an end strength increase of only 30,000 troops; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By The Military Order of the World Wars in National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, July 21-25, 2004, that it urges Congress and the Administration to further increase the Army active end strength from its current strength of 495,000 to 650,000 in order to adequately wage the longstanding Global War on Terrorism, maintain a credible deterrent and continue with essential peace enforcement and humanitarian missions.
